HVAC Repair Tips

As we get into the cooling season, it’s paramount that you remind yourself about the most common air conditioner problems. Here are some of these problems as given by AC contractors:

Low refrigerant levels

All air conditioners have a refrigerant, known as Freon. The role of the coolant is to chill the air. The cooled air then circulates throughout the home, via ducts. When the refrigerant levels are low, the home doesn’t get cool.

The refrigerant levels get low when the Freon is leaking within the system. When this problem comes about, many homeowners add more Freon. While this will fix the problem, it will only be for a short time after which it will get low again.

The best way out is to locate the source of the leak and fix it. Sometimes you can fix the problem by yourself if you have the skills, but if you have never done it before, you should let an experienced AC technician help you.

Breaking of the outside fan

The role of the outside fan is to blow heat out of the house. When the fan isn’t working properly, it means that your house can’t be cooled thus you need to get it fixed as soon as possible. All you need to do is to hire a professional to inspect it and fix any issues that it might be having.

You should note that leaving the fan unfixed for long will be calling for trouble. When the air conditioner doesn’t get rid of the hot air as fast as you would want it to, the hot air causes the compressor to overheat which not only puts the other parts of the air conditioner at the risk of getting damaged, it also puts the entire appliance at the risk of permanent damage.

Faulty wiring

There is nothing as dangerous as having your air conditioner improperly wired. In addition to the improper wiring putting your unit at the risk of catching fire, it also puts your property at risk.

A telltale sign of improper wiring is sparks. The unit might also fail to get the power that it needs to run properly. It’s also common for the circuit breaker to trip constantly.

The best way out is to hire an HVAC company as soon as you note that your unit has problems. For you to get the most from the contractor, ensure that he/she is certified and experienced enough.
