HVAC Repair Tips

A central air conditioner is a unit that cools and dehumidifies air before circulating it throughout a building. Due to the amount of noise produced during the refrigeration cycles, the unit is usually located outside the house. While you can install it in any room in your house, it’s ideal when installed in large buildings. According to AC contractors, just like any unit you have in your home, this AC also tends to develop problems that must be solved for it to continue working efficiently. The most common problems include:

Dirty AC filters

Air filters are simple and found in almost all air conditioning units. While homeowners know that they should clean them, most of them don’t do it. This results to an ineffective air conditioner that consumes plenty of energy. Due to this you have high electricity bills. To avoid this problem you need to clean air filters at least once every month. HVAC contractors recommend that you clean them regardless of whether they are dirty or not.

Sometimes the filters are too dirty to the extent that they can’t be cleaned. If you can’t clean the air filter you should buy a new one. When making the purchase, ensure that the new filter is of the right size.

AC fans and belts

Fans and belts are always in constant motion. Due to this they tend to easily wear out and break down. Worn out fans and belts result to poor functioning of the AC. If the damage to these areas is extensive your unit may stop working altogether. To avoid surprise failure of your unit, schedule regular maintenance of the air conditioner. Hire contractors to inspect the AC at least once a year. It’s recommended that you replace the fans and belts even if they aren’t completely worn out.

Dirty AC condenser coils

Condenser coils condense air thus keeping your house cool. Just like air filters, these units also get dirty and you have to clean them for your unit to function efficiently. If you have the skills you can clean the coils by yourself, but if you don’t have the skills hire a professional to help you out.

Conclusion

These are just a few of the common central AC problems that you need to know about. As you have seen, most of these problems are due to poor or lack of  air conditioning maintenance. To prevent them schedule regular maintenance of your unit.
